Compare Cost of Living & Salary
See how far your paycheck goes in different cities.
How is this calculated?
This figure represents the equivalent gross salary you'd need to earn in the other city to maintain the exact same purchasing power.
We take your net income (after federal and state taxes, plus rent) and adjust it using the BEA Regional Price Parity (RPP) index, which measures how much prices differ from the national average in each metro area.
Then we use a binary search to find the gross salary in the target city that, after its own taxes and rent, gives you the same cost-of-living-adjusted net income.
Green means you'd need a higher salary elsewhere to match your lifestyle — you're getting more for your money. Red means the opposite.
